Opening lyrics that instantly get you into the narrative flow of a song; that somehow in just a few words establish a tone that will carry through the rest of the tune; here are some of my favorites:

please allow me to introduce myself
the mississippi delta is shining like a national guitar
god said to abraham kill me a son
i met her in a club down in old soho
i was born in a crossfire hurricane
    somethin musta happened over manhattan
let’s go surfing now everybody’s learnin how
i married isis on the 5th day of may
well it’s 1969 ok all across the usa
    pushing through the market square
people say i’m the life of the party
mother mother there’s too many of you crying
    there’s a new sensation a fabulous creation
tear the roof off we’re gonna tear the roof off the mother sucker
you got your mother in a whirl
while digesting reader’s digest in the back of a dirty bookstore

    Yours?

nice to see you again stonehearted–(I just now noticed the connection I think my mind made here between your pic of your wonderful old school hippie like long rock & roll hair and me remembering this particular song. You could’ve been the poster boy for this song so to speak but you weren’t old enough in 1971).

When I say I’m in love you best believe I’m in L-U-V (first line, spoken)

That first line spoken by David Jo is an ode to the girl group the Shangri-Las, also from New York.
